When we say we do CAD/CAM custom designs here, we mean we use a Computer-Aided Design program which allows us to design virtual 3 dimensional jewelry and create photo-realistic images of your designs. This design is then sent to the Computer-Aided Manufacturing program which produces a wax model of your CAD design file.
Next the wax is weighed to determine the amount of metal required to fill the mold (gold, silver, etc.). Then the wax is attached to a base, and a flask (similar to a soup can but open at both ends) is slipped over the base. Once the wax is in the flask, a type of plaster called investment, is mixed up and poured into the flask filing all the nooks and crannies. It is then placed in a vacuum to remove all the air bubbles from the investment, then left to dry and harden.
Once the investment has dried, the base and flask are removed and the flask is put into an oven to burn out the wax. Then a centrifuge is used to force the melted metal into the investment mold.
Our jewelers then remove the investment, clean, set stones if necessary and polish the piece to complete your beautiful, unique design.
